The history of
Blacks Harbour (or "Blacks" as it is referred to by locals) is
that of a small fishing community located on the shores of the
Bay of Fundy. A community whose existence over the last hundred
years has been based on the bounty of the ocean, in particular,
the small herring fish known as sardine. This is a community
were families have flourished and rooted for more than a century
and will probably be here for century more.
In the early
1980s, the government funded a project designed to gather
information on the history of the village and it's people.
Though over ten years old, this project still gives us an
overview of the history of Blacks Harbour. This book is still
available for purchase at the village office. |
